Finally a movie that supports my Darwin and Nietchze theory.

 I have long had a thought, or more of an opinion, that we as humans are getting dumber-er and dumber-er by the nano-second.  Sure we have all of this great technology of which I happily partake but all of this technology does have a backlash by removing our ability and need to really think. 

The Movie is Idiocracy and its a very lighthearted look into the future if we remain on the path that we are on now.  Private Joe Bauers, the definition of “average American”, is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he’s easily the most intelligent person alive.

Bruce “Snake” Crandall

President Bush presented Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Crandall the Medal of Honor a small portion of his actions were put on the big screen in the movie “We Were Soldiers”.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:

Major Bruce P. Crandall distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism as a Flight Commander in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with Company A, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) on 14 November 1965.

“Boondock Saints” The greatest movie to never play the big screen.

If you have never seen “Boondock Saints” then shame on you go out and rent it today.  The 2001 release was never shown in theaters and features Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flanery, Noman Redus, David Dela Roco, and Billy Connolly.  What could be better than two Irish guys cleansing Boston of filth and criminals.  This movie gets 5 fists up in the Hooligan movie score scale. Here is a little tease.

Speaking in De-toilet today and welcomed with open arms by “The Mayor”.  This reminds me of the song by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones “The Devil is Back”

Farrakhan made several controversial statements about race, including “White people are potential humans — they haven’t evolved yet” in March 2000, and “Murder and lying comes easy for white people” in 1994.  He has also alluded to a figure called “Yacub” (or “Jacob”) with reference to whites. According to Farrakhan’s mentor, Elijah Muhammad, blacks were “born righteous and turned to unrighteousness,” while the white race was “made unrighteous by the god who made them (Mr. Yacub).”

Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts

 Those that know me know I am a serious fan and participant of Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting.  Here is a video of traditional Brasilian Jiu Jitsu which you will find very different from the “No Holds Barred” fighting featured on UFC and PRIDE FC. 

Next big fight night is UFC “Uprising” March 3, 2007 and has a huge fight card including Randy “The Natural” Couture, Rich “Ace” Franklin, Tim “The Man-iac” Silvia, Matt Hughes and Matt Hamill just to name a few. 

Closet Poetry

My wife bought me a 30g iPod for my birthday this year and I have been trying to fill it up.  The first and most obvious choice of music to put on it is one of my musical heroes, Rollins I simply refer to him as “Hank”.  The former lead singer of Black Flag and the current front man for the Rollins Band this guy is as intense as they come.  A muscle bound tattooed musical and performing animal,  just listening to Rollins makes me want to break stuff.  Rollins is an actor, singer, musician but what really makes me a fan is his writing, he is a poet and a story teller.  It seems a lifetime ago whilst staggering out of St. Andrews Hall after a Rollins show placed with all of the normal concert swag was a neatly stacked pile of books written by Rollins.  I was shocked, I was in disbelief, I had to rub my Guinness soaked eyes to make sure it was true…..Poetry????  Poetry written by Hank???  This was too much, this could simply not be true the guy who looked and acted like he could rip your lower intestine out through your ear wrote poetry???  It was true and I could not dig my money out of my pocket fast enough.  It was several years later that I learned Rollins had a similar experience which caused him to publish his work.

 

Get in the Van was the book and I have read it a thousand times if I have read it once.  I am a closet poet never really comfortable with the fact that I wrote.  I have hidden it and when asked I have denied the fact that I actually did it. For a long time I would write using the name “R.E. O’Kirby”.  I felt like it was in some way it would make me less of a manly man if it ever got out. 

 

Last year I self published a book called Lawrence St.  A short collection of some of the darkest stuff I have ever written that deals with the invisibility that people feel.  The kind of darkness that makes mothers send their sons to intensive therapy sessions as a teen.  There is one printed book in existence and the feelings of shame still plague me, I have never advertised the book and only a few people actually know of it.  It’s collecting dust in my desk somewhere under a stack of cancelled checks and diving magazines.  Perhaps one day my grandchildren will find it and say “Damn the guy that looked and acted like he could rip your lower intestine out through your ear actually wrote poetry?”

Shaved heads and white trash women

Today I would like to write about shaved heads an odd topic I know, however, if you will bear with me for a few minutes I will explain.

 

Normally I have no use for the news either printed or broadcast but since the war in Iraq and Afghanistan has started I watch to see how our American servicemen and women are doing more especially the moral and condition of our troops engaged in that far away land.  I got into this habit when my best friend Tom was serving with the Marines in Iraq.  News of this sort is harder and more sporadic as time goes on and weeks turn to months, which turn to years.  Now,  I am lucky to catch a brief glimpse of how many soldiers were killed during any particular week.  It has gone from the names and faces of our soldiers who were killed to now a generic number at the end of a broadcast.  What could be so painful,  so outrageously important as to take the place of a soldiers death in a war an ocean away?  What could possibly take priority over the death of a United States soldier wearing our American flag on their shoulder?  Brittney Spears has shaved her head, Lindsey Lohan has entered rehab, and Anna Nicole has died. Turn on any news channel pick up any paper and there it is, on the front page and receiving top billing on news channels the country over.  Since when in our twisted priorities has these 3 piles of trailer trash become more important than a young man or woman who has fallen in battle.  Two of them have done nothing productive in their lives other than served in the elite corps of Mouseketeers and spawned a few overly digitized and synthesized poorly written and lyrically devoid of any and all common sense…. albums .  The other gained popularity by banging a decrepid man and bilking him for millions prior to his death. 

There are literally thousands of US Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan right now all of whom have shaved heads and who are putting their lives in harms way, yet, America is obsessed with Brittney Spears?
